Complies with Bill C-70, Bill 79, and Reg: 644/88
Recommended for: All employees to ensure compliance with current legislation. The act outlines the role of the employer, the supervisor, and the employee in the workplace. It places duties on these groups to ensure that the work site is made a safe and healthy place to work. The act gives the worker the right to refuse unsafe work, the right to know about hazards on the job and the right to representation on a Joint Health and Safety Committee.
Objective: The objective of WHMIS is to ensure the protection of Canadian workers from the adverse effects of hazardous materials through the provision of relevant information while minimizing the economic impact on industry and the disruption of trade.

Course Time: Theory: 4 hours
Theoretical Component (in Class)
- Provincial and federal legislation
- Hazardous ingredients
- Labels and symbols
- WHMIS classifications
- Products no regulated by WHMIS
- MSDS – material safety data sheet
- First aid measures
- Preventative measures
- WHMIS checklist
- Worker’s rights and responsibilities
- Summary (written test)
Practical Component (1/2 hour Per Person)
- Review physical characteristics of a propane cylinder
- Complete overview of tank condition (“O” ring, collar, dating, soap solution check, etc)
- Review cylinder exchange procedures
- All participants will change a propane cylinder on an industrial forklift/sweeper or site specific device in a competent manner
- An evaluation report is completed on each person
Practical Component (Hands On)
- Reading and Understanding an MSDS
Upon the completion of this program a wallet card for each participant will be issued and all necessary paperwork for company records as proof of training.
